$WORK isn’t sold to the public or investors. The token serves as a unit of account for patronage and as a utility token for governance and staking inside the Commons. Hence ownership of $WORK is not simply enough, you must be a formal Commons Member to receive the full value of the token.
Commons Members are rewarded with $WORK for certain patronage activities: payroll consumption, Member referrals, and staking.
As the Commons grows Members are rewarded with new $WORK through a process called Payroll Mining. While there is no maximum cap on the total amount of $WORK that can be minted and distributed, new $WORK will only be minted once specific growth milestones are met.
During the Genesis Allocation, the Commons will mint and distribute 315,000,000 $WORK to Commons Stakeholders.
Community Breakdown of $WORK
52.38% or 165,000,000 of $WORK is the Genesis Allocation that will be distributed to the Community.
Commons Treasury: 143,300,000 $WORK. (20% Vested) $WORK held in the Commons Community Treasury All $WORK held by the Community Treasury are held in a multi-sig Gnosis Safe controlled by the Stewards.
Stewards and Key Contributors: 6,700,000 $WORK. (20% Vested) Stewards and Key Contributors will be allocated 4.46% of the Commons Genesis Allocation.
Retroactive & Coalition Rewards: 15,000,000 $WORK. (100% Vested) Genesis Commons Stakeholders will receive Retroactive Payroll Mining Rewards for Consumption and Referrals which occurred prior to the Genesis Distribution.

Vested Circulating Supply
There is 27.08M $WORK or 8.6% in vested, non-treasury circulating supply directly following the Genesis Distribution. Unvested $WORK will vest in real time over a 4-year period via Superfluid. Recipients will not have to claim rewards. All $WORK will automatically be deposited into the digital wallet designated in the Member Dashboard.
Genesis Launch Referral Game and $WORK Rewards
The Commons is built by communities for communities. As a result the long-term success of the project depends on activating a network effect.

To participate, Members make referrals of New Commons Members and earn 1000 points for a Coalition Member and 10,000 for an Employee Member who join the Commons. Genesis Distribution Launch
Open Membership Launch: Thursday, April 22nd
Time: 12:00pm MT
On Thursday, April 22 the Commons launches the ability to formally join the Commons as a Coalition Member. The New Members to joined the Commons receive 1,000 $WORK tokens + a limited edition POAP NFT commemorating your joining during the genesis block. The New Members who join before the Dashboard launches at noon MST on Monday, May 3 will receive 500 $WORK. After the launch of the Dashboard, the New Member reward will drop to 250 $WORK.
